On Thursday morning, September 2, 2021, God saw fit to call His son home. Alex Bernard Murphy, affectionately known as “Al” and “Noddy”, was born in Grenada, Mississippi, on October 12, 1965, to the union of Earnest L. Murphy, Sr. and Augusta M. Murphy. Alex was proceeded in death by his father, Earnest L. Murphy.
Alex’s relationship with Christ started at an early age. He attended Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood, Illinois where he was baptized and committed his life to the Lord.
Alex attended Garfield Elementary School, Washington Elementary School and Proviso East High School. After high school, he worked at Ten-O-One Medical Center for a number of years. Al was also a DJ at the Playhouse in Forest Park, Illinois several years ago. He continued to DJ for family gatherings and the special events of others throughout his lifetime.
Alex never married. However, he had one son, Lonnel S. Fowlkes, whom he treasured. They shared a passion for music.
Alex loved attending family gatherings. He thoroughly enjoyed socializing and being in the company of others. Al had a genuine affection for family and friends, and he always called to wish and sing Happy Birthday to his loved ones.
Alex was the comedian of the family. His favorite past time was to perform impersonations and comedy shows for family and friends. He participated in football, wrestling and baseball. Al was an excellent swimmer and served as a lifeguard during the summer for several years.
A great contribution Alex made to the community was his mentoring group called P-Phi-Q’s. This mentoring group helped keep students enrolled in school and become productive members of society. Lifelong relationships were built that remain in tact today.
Alex leaves to cherish his loving memory: his only son, Lonnel S. Fowlkes of Woodridge, Illinois; his mother, Augusta M. Murphy of Maywood, Illinois; one sister, Lomia Booker-Chapman (Allen) of Antioch, California; three brothers, Ernest Lawrence Murphy, Jr. (Margaret) of Maywood, Illinois; Terrence Wayne Murphy Sr. (Senita) of Bellwood, Illinois; Randy Lamont Murphy of Bellwood, Illinois; a special aunt, Sally Goss, of Maywood, Illinois; family honorable mention, DeJean Elmore; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and other close family and friends.
