Crystal Yates was born into life on March 28, 1967, in Chicago, IL, to Minnie Cherry and Sylvester D. Davis. Crystal was the oldest of two children.
Crystal accepted Christ into her life at an early age. Crystal was also a member of New Horizon Missionary Baptist Church.
Crystal went to Corkey Elementary School and attended Farragut High School. Crystal received her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Restorative Rehab Assistant in 2009.
Crystal was employed at Aperion Rehabilitation Center for nearly 15 years. Crystal was looking forward to retiring and enjoying the rest of her life with family and friends.
Crystal, better known as “The Diva,” was very protective of her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted and loving person. One thing about Crystal, she wouldn’t hesitate to tell it like it was.
Crystal was jazzy, loved her makeup, loved cooking, dancing, watching her T.V. shows while eating her seafood, and most of all she didn’t play about her money.
Crystal’s signature dishes were her famous string beans with white potatoes and her famous greens that everyone enjoyed eating.
In her free time, Crystal enjoyed shopping, listening to R. Kelly and Prince.
It’s safe to say, Crystal was the true definition of a Diva.
Crystal was preceded in death by her stepfather, Anthony Cherry; grandparents, Aslean Akins, and Tom Yates; aunts, Bertha, Dorothy, and Precious; and uncle, Junior.
Crystal leaves to cherish her loving memories her mother, Minnie Cherry; sister, Aslean Barnes; children, Christopher Yates, Tiffany Yates, Nelson Yates; daughter in-law, Fredericka Yates; dog, Cody Yates; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Jr., Layanni, Ericka , Jakhi, Bryan, Marcus, Mariah, Martise, Traveon, LaPrince, Aniyah, Azayliah; one great grandson, Easton; four nephews, Daquan, Davell, Korvell, Demond; two great nieces, Ivyana, and Ilvonna; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends.
