Demetrius R. Hardy

Demetrius Rayshone Hardy was born December 31, 1980 in Chicago IL, to Patricia Allison (Hardy) and the late Elmer Ray Coleman Sr. he was the 3rd oldest of the children.

Demetrius accepted Christ at an early age being baptized by the late Pastor JP White at the Greater Mt. Pleasant M.B church in Chicago IL.  Demetrius later joined the Broadview SDA church in Broadview IL, being baptized by Pastor Marvin Brown where he remained until his passing.

Demetrius attended Mason Elementary from there he attended John Hope College Prep High School, and received his high school diploma from Morgan Park High School.  Demetrius continued his education as he attended NIU University, and shortly after he attended Robert Morris University where he obtained numerous outstanding accomplishments with three well-earned degrees.  Associate’s Degree, BA of Business Administrative with a Management Concentration, and a MBA of Business Administrative with a H.R Management Concentration.

Demetrius was a natural born leader while attending MPHS but many of his alumni and friends appreciated the man that he grew to be.  He was an integral part of the MPHS C/O 1998 where he served as a committee member and co-treasure.  He spent over 15 years giving 150% to everything he was involved in. Known to many as the “glue” to his classmates, he served the Morgan Park community by planning fundraisers, volunteering for the school events and supporting the families during difficult times. He played a huge role in the alumni picnic each year as well as milestone reunions for his class. He was currently working tirelessly to plan the activities for his class 25th year reunion for 2023. His absence will be sorely missed.

Demetrius, began his first job while attending Morgan Park High School where he worked as an Office Assistant.

Demetrius started his journey with Sonic Air Couriers on September 5, 2000, where he was a lead dispatcher. Sonic was merged into UPS Supply Chain Solutions in 2003 where he was promoted into a specialist with the Gateway Air Import Department until 2017.  In 2017, he accepted a position of Compliance Coordinator where he administered training, and insured all TSA credentials were compliant throughout the entire building. In 2018 Demetrius begin the fight of getting the operations clerks unionized. Demetrius gathered a team of people that were willing to fight with him as they campaigned, lobbied, and gathered the information that was needed to make everyone sure that the office becoming union would be the best for everyone.  In 2018 they begin to negotiate the contract with Teamsters (local 705), and here today UPS (CSI) clerks are going on their 5th year finishing out the 1st contract.  Demetrius has lead the clerks the entire time as he served as the most passionate union steward, and advocated for the clerks as he showed passion for every situation he faced and boy did he fight with all he had. Demetrius dedicated himself to the clerks, and the local 705 union, and was appointed to take classes at DeVry University which was funded by Teamsters.  This month he had just started his new semester with only one semester left before completion during while attending these classes he gained knowledge, and understanding of the by-laws, and how to read and understand contracts along with any other skills that were helpful for day to day office needs.  Demetrius defiantly was a great asset to the company and the union his demonstration of a team player, and dedicated worker is what he displayed at all times and he leaves many unforgettable memories.

On Wednesday January 25th 2023 in Chicago IL Demetrius departed this life, and he’s resting until the return of Christ.

Demetrius was a caring generous, loving, helpful and the most passionate person you could ever know. Demetrius loved his family and friends. He was always willing to help in any capacity.

Demetrius was proceeded in death by his father the late Elmer Ray Coleman, his grandfather’s  Elmer Ray Shoemate, Raymond Hardy Sr. and Turner Holmes, his grandmother Ernestine Coleman, his sister Delyla Wiltz, his aunts Latricia Thornton & Lavettra Coleman, and 3 uncles John Pilgrim, Dewayne Coleman, and Randy Coleman.

Demetrius leaves to cherish his memories: His mother Patricia Allison, Step father Eddie Allison, his grandmother Annie Holmes, five sisters: Norquida Hardy, Quinyatta Hardy, Shatasha Coleman, Shavonne Coleman, and Shadae Coleman. Five brothers: Raymond Smith, Elmer Coleman Jr., Bernard Hardy, Dennis Shines, and Kelvin Griffin. Three aunts: Idell Townsend (Tommie), Vernice Jones (William), and Kecia Coleman. Three uncles: Raymond Hardy (Janet), Anthony Hardy (Deyona), and Bernard Hardy. Also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Demetrius also, had a host of special friends.
