Gregory Hosea Jenkins, affectionately known as Dr. Love, was born on November 19, 1955, at County Hospital in Chicago, IL, to the proud parents, James Earl Jenkins, and Leola Jenkins of Chicago, IL. Dr. Love was the first born of 6 siblings and also the 1st to gain his Heavenly Wings.
Dr. Love joined New Morning Star M.B. Church, under the leadership of Rev. Morris and was baptized by Rev. Willie Williams. He later frequently visited LeClaire M.B. Church under the leadership of Dr. Rev. Ahmad Boyd, where his family attended.
Dr. Love attended Marconi Elementary School, Hess Upper Grade Center, and Kennedy High School, where he graduated with his Diploma. After graduation, Dr. Love enlisted in the Army in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was stationed in Fort Bend, N.C. He was released from active duty with an Honorable Discharge and was employed with the Army Reserve for some years.
He started Driving Cabs for Mr. David, owner of People’s Cab Company, where he gained to love a host of people and special clients, who loved him. Because of his love and feel for music he took on the name “Dr. Love” and was a part of the Big 50 Organization, started and headed by Big Tom the Godfather of the westside.
Dr. Love received his Heavenly Wings on May 20, 2025, at 11:45 a.m. and he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Sallie Jenkins, and Mary Jane Leason (who raised him); father, James E. Jenkins; auntie, Martha Chocolate; uncle, Clayborn Leason (Smoke); the love of his life, Rose Wright; special niece, Brianna D. Jenkins; and a host of others in the Jenkins and Wright families.
Dr. Love leaves to cherish his loving memories, his loving mother, Leola Jenkins; two children, Gregory Hosea Wright, Jr. (Sharon), and Kawana L. Jenkins; one loving sister, Evangelist Shirley D. Jenkins; four brothers, James E. Jenkins, Jr., Kenneth T. Jenkins, Sr. (Vickey), Markeith D. Jenkins (Antoinette), and Theoderrick T. Lewis (Bam); four grandchildren, Jawana, Jazzlin, Syria, Al (PooMan); 6 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Doc also will be truly missed by his 3 special friends, DJ Mr. Wonderful, longtime friend, Lake of East Living and last but not least, Mr. David, owner of Peoples Cab Company, who Doc has been driving cars for over 30 years.
