Hilda Brown was born on June 11, 1924, in New Hebron, Mississippi. She was the youngest child of Esau Landing and Josie Walker Landing and had two siblings, A.D Landing and Mamie Landing (Murray). In an effort to improve their quality of life, the family moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1929, where Hilda attended Brown and Birney elementary schools and was a graduate of Lucy Flower High School.
On June 1, 1947, Hilda married the love of her life, Madison L. Brown II. To this union, three children were born – Juanita, Madison III and Eloise. Hilda and Madison were married until his death in 1986.
Hilda was employed as an Information Operator with Illinois Bell Telephone Company and later Cook County Hospital for several years before her retirement in 1979.
Affectionally called “Mamon” by her grandchildren, Hilda was a devoted and supportive daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Mozart Baptist Church which later became First Baptist Congregational Church, where she was a faithful member for over 60 years. Hilda loved her church family and participated in the Gospel Chorus and was a mother of the church.
Hilda had her homegoing on May 28, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, sister, and brother. She leaves to cherish her memory three children – Juanita Floyd (Michael), Madison L Brown III and Eloise Brown, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and her First Baptist Congregational church family.
