Khalil Hurd was born on November 22, 1995 in Chicago, IL. He was the youngest of seven children cared for by his mother, Regenia Hurd-Smith, who preceded him in death.
He attended John Hay Elementary, but eventually moved with his family to the suburb of Berwyn, where he attended Lincoln Elementary and went on to Morton West High School.
What do we remember about Khalil?
Khalil was gifted with physical agility, able to scale a fence like a Marvel Superhero and ride a bicycle at the tender age of three years. He was adventurous and spontaneous, and this spirit of adventure was cultivated in his mastering the sport of skateboarding. He participated in several tournaments and was fierce competition for his opponents. As he got older, he advanced from skateboarding to riding motorbikes, which became his passion.
Khalil loved the Disney movie “The Aristocats” as a child, especially the title character, Thomas O’Malley, the Alley Cat, who thrived on his street smarts, lived his life with no restrictions, and loved his freedom, traits that ultimately described Khalil himself. This is where he got his nickname “O’Malley” (O’Mally).
He grew up in the Austin neighborhood on the 900 block of North Lockwood, affectionally termed “the block”, “900” or “the 9”.
Because he loved his 900 family and friends and visited them often, he earned the nickname “K9”.
Khalil longed for the company of his friends and family. Though he had no children of his own, Khalil left behind a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and even neighborhood kids who he loved as his own. Khalil was “Big Brother” to all the children, and they loved him dearly.
Khalil was called to rest on May 7, 2021 at 9:35 pm. He leaves to cherish his memories his siblings: Jameshia (Darin), Andrea, Angela, Arron, Wanda, and Robby, Denzel; his nieces and nephews, Tajhzineah, Tyrin, De’Ahvione, Arriona, Iris, Cheridan, Auguste, Matthew, Zoey, Kahyal, Mason, La’Gino, and Promise; aunts and uncles, loving big cousins and their children, the lil’ cousins aka buddies aka lil’ brothers and sisters: Na’Kyen, E’Monee, Emah’J, E’Mir, Za’Myah, Juelz, Elijah, Quintavious, Chase, Kodi, Makiylah, Cynaé, Layla and several others who are not listed, but definitely not forgotten. Last, but not least, he left behind his loyal and loving friends, who were like an extended family to him. May God rest his soul.
