Kimberly Magalene Ward was born December 20, 1963, to Jerry Ward and Alene Landers Ward. She was the fourth of five children born to this union. Kimberly accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of J. W. Philips.
Kimberly attended Medill Elementary School and received culinary arts training at Anti Hunger Federation and later received a certificate in Culinary Art as part of the Oliver’s Kitchen Culinary training program.
Kim as she was affectionately called, left an impact on everyone she encountered. Her energy, sense of humor, and love of music were some of the things that drew people to her. Kim’s ability to remember everyone’s birthday is one of the many things that made her so special. Kim made it a point that she had to be the first person to call her loved ones on their birthdays. The birthday call would not be complete until she performed the 107.5 WGCI radio station Birthday song and her Birthday dance routine for you. For her daughter and three grandchildren, Kim made it a point to call them at their exact times of birth where she would sing the traditional birthday song and then yell “Remix” as she performed the radio station version and her dance routine.
Kim loved to sing and dance. She would often perform impromptu Karaoke and dance routines with her big sister Claris (Penny) and big brother Derrick (Ricky). If any of her cousins Seneca (Peaches) Terri, Glynis (G.G.), Karen (Cookie), and Barbara were around, then it became a full-on concert. Kim knew that if she kicked off the song, her siblings and favorite cousins would instantly join in.
Kim also loved to do hair and would experiment with various styles and hair dye colors, especially the color Royal Blue since it was her favorite color.
Kim loved her daughter and family dearly. She found fulfillment by spending time with her grandkids, nieces, and nephews and would often stay up all night pulling pranks on them or playing games and watching horror movies with them.
On Tuesday, January 4, 2022, Kimberly answered God's call to come home. She is preceded in death by her father Jerry Ward Sr., two brothers: Jerry Ward Jr. and Everette Ward. Two Grandmothers: Maggie Landers and Clara Felton, one Grandfather O.V. Landers, and one nephew Omar.
Kim leaves to cherish her memory: her loving Mother, Alene Ward; her beloved Daughter, Chanicka Jones (Eric); three Grandchildren, Marquan Jones, Jalen Jones, and Ericka Jones; Brother, Derrick Ward (Kanisha); Sister, Claris Nichols (Lamont); Nieces, Chatia (Gregory), Sanethia, Tericka, Donyale, DeNesha, Lynnetta, and Kenya; Nephews, Deveran Sr. Derrick (Ricky Jr.) and Derrick; Great Nephews, Deveran Jr., Jerome, Jamir, and Zamir; Great Nieces, Allayah, A'Niyah, Londyn, Ny'ilah, and Trinity; One Aunt, Magaret Reeves; Two Honorary Daughters, Willa "Star" Taylor and Jaqueline Hill; and a host of cousins and dear friends.
A beautiful soul, Kim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
