Luella Moore Obituary

Luella Morris was born on August 5, 1934 to the union of Hugh and Christine Morris in Belzoni, Mississippi. She was the fourth of four children born to this union.

Luella attended Spring Valley School in Cruger, Mississippi.

Luella confessed Christ at an early age and attended Spring Valley Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor C.L. Clark.

Luella met the love of her life Wiley D. Moore and they were joined in holy matrimony on February 15, 1951; to that union seven children were born (Wesley, Judy, Brenda, Barbara, Linda, Parrish, and Vernita).

Luella moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1953 and started fellowshipping at New Morning Star Baptist Church. In 1965, they purchased their current home on West Washington Blvd, where they met the late Deacon Duncan Minor. Affectionately known as Dunc, he invited the Moore family to his church and in 1967, the family joined Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor August Minor. There, Luella wore many hats, as she was a faithful member. She loved to sew, so she became a Matron for the Young Adult Choir, where she made many uniforms and robes. She loved to cook, so she joined the Union Hill kitchen staff. She even opened her home to feed the entire Young Adult Choir and any other church members, no one left hungry. She became a member of the Missionary Society (appointed by the late Mother Mary Minor). In this ministry, she was voted in as treasurer. She devoted her time doing missionary work, spreading the Gospel, and doing her part to bring souls to Christ and eventually became a member of the Mother’s Board, where she served until the end.

Luella embodied class, strength, humility, and beauty, with a smile that could light up a room, a smile that will be remembered by all who saw it.

On Friday, July 1, 2022, Luella traded in her earthly body and put on her crown of righteousness.

Luella was preceded in death by her father, Hugh E. Morris Sr.; mother, Christine Sutton; husband, Wiley D. Moore; two brothers, Hugh E. Morris Jr. and Charles Morris; sister, Martha Ann Meeks; three children, Brenda Jean Patterson, Wesley Moore, and Parrish Moore; and two grandchildren, Shontal Moore and Lanon Moore.

Luella’s life and legacy will be forever cherished by her four daughters, Judy, Barbara (Phillip), Linda, and Vernita; two sisters, Henrietta and Geraldine; daughter-in-law, June Evelyn; ten grandchildren, Lavinia (Tyrone), Rozina (James), Monique, Rasheedah, Terrance, Damita, Sterling (Tameka), Samantha, Ashley, and Shannon; seventeen great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter; special friend, Huebell Driver; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
