Mamie Pearl Green Obituary

Mother Mamie Pearl Green was born on January 9, 1928, in Coatopa, Alabama. She was the third of five children born to the union of Alfred Russell, Sr. and Dora Beville-Russell. Her parents; three brothers, William Russell, Alfred Russell, Jr., and James Russell; and sister, Bettye V. Malone, preceded her in death. Mamie departed God’s Earth on Monday, January 27, 2025, shortly after celebrating her 97 years of life with her family.

Mamie was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Frederick Samuel Green, Sr., on September 7, 1947. They moved to the bright lights of Chicago that same year.  To this union three children were born, Frederick Samuel Green, Jr., Patricia Ann Green Johnson, and Eric Green. Both Frederick Samuel Green, Sr. and Frederick Samuel Green, Jr. preceded her in death.

Mamie attended Dugg Hill and Zion Hill Elementary Schools in Coatopa, Alabama. She graduated on May 26,1947 from Tuskegee Institute High School in Tuskegee, Alabama. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in middle school. She then worked for Woolworth and the Chicago Public Schools System. In 1980, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education from National Lewis University. After 22 years of service with Marillac House, she retired in 1998 as the Director of their Early Childhood Education and Care Program.

Mamie confessed to Christ under the late Reverend D.V.S. Carlisle in Coatopa, Alabama. She became a member of the Mt. Ebenezer M.B. Church under the late Reverend Eugene Tremble in 1952. She was a very faithful and dedicated worker, serving in various roles. Her diligence and commitment were often recognized by the sheer number of awards presented to her over the years by her church family.

Sister Mamie Pearl Green was initiated into Wisdom Chapter No. 99, October 26,1966. She was a 1976 Bi-Centennial Bessette Worthy Matron, the highest office in a Subordinate Chapter of Eureka Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star (OES), State of Illinois Prince Hall Masons (PHA). She worked with Eureka Grand Chapter as a Grand Officer.

Her loving and precious memories will be cherished by a daughter, Patricia Ann Johnson; a son, Eric Green; eight grandchildren, Tara Anderson, Rick Green, Brian Richardson, Kinia Sutton, Rachel Johnson, Robert Johnson, Erica Green, and Emmanuel Green; nine great grandchildren, Jerraud Green (preceded her in death), Joshua Anderson, Kiah Green, Nia Green, Lea Green, Brian Richardson, Nilaja Richardson, Joanna Sutton and Cheyanne Richardson; daughters-in-love, Dora Green, Barbara Rodgers, and Zelda Sutton; as well as a host of relatives, friends, coworkers, the sisters of OES and her Mount Ebenezer family.
