Mattie Robertson, widely acclaimed for her musical talent, began her music journey early in age while playing Piano, Organ and Violin at the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago.
Her music contributions to her home church span over 60 years. After the restructuring of the Music Dept at Metropolitan, Mrs. Robertson made a decision to leave. Her decision provided an opportunity to fulfill a promise made to her first cousin, the late Dr. Arthur D. Griffin, promising him that if she ever left Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church., She would join First Baptist Congregational Church. Although she has had many offers, she kept her word, and joined the FBCC music ministry, as the Sanctuary Choir Director.
Sister Robertson is a 37 year retired teacher of Music from Whitney Young Magnet High School, and has garnered many honors over the many years of service to the Chicago Public School System.
Sis. Robertson has numerous professional affiliations that encompass her distinction as an accomplished musician, director, composer, and arranger.
