Odessa P. Jones was born May 24, 1947, in Chicago, IL. To Warren D. and Ruth Parks. Odessa was one of four children. Both her parents and two brothers, Chester Parks and Warren Jr. Parks, who preceded her in death.
Odessa attended Wendell Phillips High School. She also attended Columbia College where she studied Journalism and Photography. As a child she dreamed of being a Foreign Correspondent.
She married Herman Lee Jones Jr. in 1965 and two children were added to their union.
She worked for the United States Postal Service for more than 40 years. She was a mother & advisor to many of her colleagues because of the wisdom that God gifted her with. She was often recognized as the lady with the “Scarf and that Beautiful Smile.”
Odessa accepted Christ when she was a young child. As an adult she attended Judson Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Jackson where she served as an usher before she became ill.
She loved to have family over to her house for holidays where they enjoyed her cooking, playing cards and reminiscing on the good old days. She also loved traveling and visiting her children in Oregon and Philadelphia. God blessed her with the opportunity to realize her dream of traveling across country on a luxury train.
After fighting the good fight through an illness, Odessa entered paradise on January 14, 2022. She leaves to celebrate and cherish her memories, two sons, Bryan (Cassandra) Jones, and Herman (PJ) III (Tracey) Jones; one brother, Arnold Parks; bonus children, La Shawn Jones, Anthony (Yolanda) Jones, and LaTia Jones; 10 grandchildren, Rashaun, Helen, Michael, Ryan, LaKeisha, Jovan, Danielle, Cheyenne, Kendall, Cori; 2-1/2 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
