Ralph Ford Obituary

Ralph Ford was born in Talbotton, Georgia on August 16, 1938, to the late Willie and Leathie Ford. He was the 12th child born into this union.  Life led Ralph to Maywood, IL in the 1950’s.

He shared that Russell’s BBQ was the only place that would hire him when he first moved here and remained a place that he frequently visited on special occasions.  Eventually he would become employed at International Harvester and remained there until he retired.

Ralph accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized and joined Shiloh MB Church under the leadership of Rev. Jimmie Daniels. At Shiloh he was the only man on the nursing board at that time and took pride in his job.

In his later years fishing, driving a bus for Laid-Law and hanging out with his family kept him busy. He enjoyed sports, gardening, playing cards, music and having a good time.

Although Ralph was known for many things, having a special nickname for everyone was one of them.

Ralph was also known for always having a bunch of kids in tow, whether they were his own, his grandkids or his nieces and nephews. He was a joy to be around and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

On October 12, 2025, at 10:57 PM an angel whispered in Ralph’s ear that his earthly life was done. He was welcomed into the gates of heaven by his son, Kirk; his brothers, Warren “Big Ford,” Alexander “Zan,” Willie James “Rip,” Eddie ,“ Daddy’ O,” Henry “Hank,” Jhonnie “Jack;” his sisters, Mae Francis, Emma Lucille “Cille,” Laura “Shag,” Hattie “Mae,” Lizzie and Salleane. What a reunion!

Ralph leaves to cherish in his memory 1 sister, Jewel (Archie); and carrying on his legacy, his beloved children, Regina, James, Tamy, Ronnie, Sam, Tony, Tyeresa (Chris), Robin, Ryan, Raquel, Raphaella, and Renita;  25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Along with a close-knit host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and honorary family who affectionally knew him as Uncle Ralph.
