Mr. Robert James was born on July 4, 1941, to the late Lem and Cora James in Auvergne, Arkansas. He was the seventh of eight Children; Chester, Anna, Emma, RJ., Jesse and Irene Preceded him in death. His loving sister Opal (92) is his only living sibling.
Robert accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Holmes of Mt. Gideon MB Church.
Robert was educated in the Arkansas Public School System until eighth grade when he relocated to Chicago and graduated from Crane High School.
Robert worked for Chicago Transit Authority for many years until he retired. In his younger years, he played for and coached the CTA baseball team.
Robert joined Greater Union Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. H.S Graham, where he was a faithful member singing and directing the choir.
Robert had a love for many things which included going to dog races, watching Horse races, basketball, football and baseball. He loved to dance, stepping was his favorite, but his greatest love was singing. He faithfully served and was a founding member of the singing group “On One Accord.” He was also a master griller and barbecuing was his specialty.
Robert transitioned into eternity on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at 3:30 a.m., peacefully surrounded by family.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory: sons, Kenneth (Alice), Donald (Danijelalia), and Shawn; daughter, Michelle; grandchildren, Linda, Nico, Aleksandar Andrian, Andjelija, Addison and Keyshawn; one sister, Opal Hunter; one sister-in- law, Wilma James; a special niece, Joyce, who cared for him until his death; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.
